Overview
Unions are the protectors of workers rights...

America's unions have directly and indirectly benefitted all workers in wage, benefits, safety and employment rights.  Most non-union workers assume that they have the same rights as their union brothers/sisters.  However, for non-union workers the law is employment at will.  An employer can hire/fire and run their business as they see fit.  A union contract binds the employer to follow the terms of the union contract, often including seniority rights and discharge only for just cause.  Non-union workers often falsely assume that they have these same bargained for rights.
